TQ7668NW PROSPECT ROW, Brompton 686-1/5/49 (East side) 24/02/50 No.15 (Formerly Listed as: PROSPECT ROW, Brompton Nos.2-20 (Consecutive))
GV II
House. c1740. Flemish bond brick, roof not visible. STYLE: Mid Georgian PLAN: double-depth. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement; 4-window range. A parapeted front with a thin brick cornice, and rubbed brick segmental-arched openings. A left of centre doorway has cast-iron posts to a flat canopy with thin modillion cornice, antae, and a round-arched doorway with plate-glass fanlight and half-glazed early C20 door; hornless 6/6-pane sashes in exposed, flush frames, with blind windows to the 2nd and 4th bays from the left on the second floor. INTERIOR: contains a wainscotted through passage divided by an elliptical arch, with a dogleg lateral stair. HISTORY: notable for the use of the newer Flemish bond, in contrast to the very similar but English-bonded No.14 (qv). Prospect Row was begun around 1705 and completed by 1756. Part of a varied terrace of early-mid Georgian houses (qqv). (MacDougall P: The Chatham Dockyard Story: Rainham: 1987-: 66).
