TQ77SE DOCK HEAD ROAD, Chatham Dockyard 686-1/6/58 (North side (off)) 06/06/84 Combined Ship Trade Office PP69 to rear of No.8 Machine shop

Machine shop and offices. Dated 1880. Cast-iron frame, brick office block and ground-floor infill, with corrugated-iron cladding and roof. PLAN: rectangular with N office extension. EXTERIOR: 2-storeys; 11-bay range. Gabled ends, sides express iron frame with strip windows 3 per bay with mullion glazing bars in upper part of each floor, wooden eaves cornice on paired brackets. Offices have a 5-window range N gable with a plat band kneelers and raised verges band, with segmental-arches to plate-glass sashes and central double half-glazed doors. INTERIOR: not inspected but reported to include a timber roof with Queen post struts and principals that reach only up to the Queen struts. Group value with the Boilershop and No.8 Machine shop as part of the mid C19 development of the N end of the Chatham docks. Various mid C20 single storey additions to the sides.
