House. Mid C15, partly rebuilt mid C20. Timber-framed and           rendered with C20 brickwork, left-of-centre brick ridge stack           rebuilt C20, and a hipped tiled roof.           STYLE: Wealden type house.           PLAN: central hall plan with right-hand storeyed chamber and           left-hand service range rebuilt c1800; hall stack and floor           inserted late C16.           EXTERIOR: 2 storey, 3-window range. Originally a recessed           central hall with jettied end ranges, that to the left           rebuilt, the former hall has overhanging eaves with curved           braces from each end, the left-hand one sitting on a curved           bracket; a left-hand C20 door, and 2 large C17 timber 6-light           mullion and transom windows with leaded lights inserted into           the middle and right-hand sections c1966. 3-light mullion           casements, with ovolo mouldings to the centre and right, and a           small hipped dormer. Rear lean-to.           INTERIOR: the former hall has a wide left-hand late C16           fireplace with small recesses in the back and a right-hand           bread oven, a late C16 inserted floor with moulded axial beam;           morticing and studs to C15 partition wall indicating positions           of ground-floor door and ladder stair to first-floor chamber;           upper end has heavy flat barefaced joists tenoned into the           axial beam. The first floor has rear jowl posts, with smoke           blackening toward the hall on the outer posts, with the           moulded, curved braces to the central tie beam removed, and an           octagonal king post with moulded base and cap and 4 arch           braces to the ridge (not visible). Late C16 rear casements           have diagonal bars and ovolo mouldings.           A good Wealden type house with many surviving original           details.
