Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ROCHESTER HIGH STREET TQ 7468 7/63 Nos 78 and 80 24.10.50 GV II Two houses, now with shops. Late C18 (and forming part of a range that includes No 82: see note below). Brick with some early fine pointing; Kent tile mansard roof. 3 storeys with dormered attic. Large, brick ridge stack. Each unit with lateral entrance hall and stairs, and 3-storeyed rear wings. Front: each with 2 windows to each upper sloor, all 6-pane hornless sashes. Parapet and brick cornice. Flat-roofed dormers with 2-light casement windows. Circa 1900-style plate-glass shop fronts. Some sash windows to rear, and 2 2-light casements with leaded lights to No 80.
Note: the front range forms part of a single-phase development which includes No 82 (qv). No 82 is separately listed because it contains internal features belonging to the medieval house to the rear known as Philip Lodge (or 82A High Street) qv. The front elevation should be considered in conjunction with No 82.
