The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ROCHESTER ESPLANADE Royal Crown Hotel (see High Street) TQ 7468 NW ROCHESTER ESPLANADE 7/34 No 3 (The Castle Club) 19.2.70 GV II Club, formerly a private house. early Cl9. Brick stuccoed to front; Welsh slate roofs. The S wall is of rubble masonry and possibly formed part of (or was built with materials from) the adjoining Bridge Chapel (qv) and associated buildings. 3- storeys. Front: 3 bays, the ground floor rusticated. Central bay projects: portico with Doric columns and glazed double doors under rectangular overlight; giant order of 2 recessed Ionic columns. Hornless sashes to all windows except those to ground floor and 1 st floor centre which have tripartite arrangement with glazing bars. Ground floor side bay windows recessed under round-headed super-ordinate arches. External blind casings throughout. Parapet, cornice and sill-bands. rear elevation (towards Gandulph Square) with sash windows under segmental headed arches. Interior not inspected.
