In 2011 a dendrochronological analysis of the oak timbers from Spokeshave and Cherry Cottages. Two samples were tested (post and wallplate). One was felled in winter AD 1397/8 and the other had the same date. This means the primary phase of the construction was likely to be AD 1398 or soon thereafter. The two cottages together form a four-bay medieval open-hall house. Further bay added in the 16th century. (2)
