Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
EDENBRIDGE EDENBRIDGE 1, 5280 High Street (West Side) Nos 94 and 96 (Formerly listed as timber-framed structure adjoining Tanyard House). TQ 4446 12/445 10.9.54. II GV 2. Restored timber framed C15 building. 2 storeys No 94, 3 windows, No 96 one window in gabled section running back at right angles. Roof of stone flags partly restored with tiles. No 94 has exposed framing with plaster filling on 1st floor; and modern leaded casements. On rendered ground floor 2 modest modern shop fronts. No 96 has weatherboarded 1st floor and brick ground floor. C19 windows, casement above and sash below; and 4-panel door. On left return projecting chimney stack with base of coursed stone and moulded plinth. Inside much heavy exposed timber; and crown post in open upper floor. Nos 86 to 96 (even) form a group.

No 94 is a medieval house of Wealden form with a two-bay open hall & single two-storeyed end. The second two-storeyed end (No 96) forms a cross wing & is a later addition.

Dendrochronology dating of No. 94 gave a date range of 1400-1435. (2)

A timber framed house of two medieval phases the earlier of which (No 94) is a formerly open 2-bay hall and end of Wealden form and the later (No 96) is a 3-bay 2-storey cross wing jettied to the front of probably non-domestic origin (3)
