Monument record TQ 86 NW 33 - Probable Roman cemetery, East Rainham, Gillingham
Summary
A probable Roman burial ground; found in the late 1910's during brickearth excavations, but not reported at the time. It first became apparent when workmen from the site began offering finds for sale. Most of the items purchased have since been donated to the British Museum. Finds still in a private collection include a Samian cup, an Ivy-leaf dish, a dish and a blue bead, all dating to the 1st century. The exact provenance of these finds could not be ascertained and the brickearth company is now out of business.
