The following text is from the original listed building designation:
HARTLEY CASTLE HILL 1. 5280 Yew Cottage and TQ 66 NW 4/156 Hartley Antiques II GV 2. Early C18. This was originally a farmhouse in the occupation of a Mr Richard Treadwell. Later it was converted into 2 cottages for the use of Fairby Farm. Two storeys plastered. Thatched roof with pentice behind. Five casement windows. Simple penticed doorcase.
