Findspot record TQ 86 NW 49 - Prehistoric Implements, Motney Hill, Gillingham

Summary

A number of prehistoric flint implements were found during excavations at Motney Hill prior to 1977. Further investigations were undertaken at the site by the Lower Medway Archaeological Research group in 1991. The finds ranged in date from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age and include axes, blades, cores, picks, scrapers and gravels.

Full Description

[TQ 825 685] Motney HIll, Gillingham. Site excavated by J P T Burchell produced axes, tranchet axes, pick, cores, blades and flakes, scrapers, gravers and other implements. Finds are in the British Museum. (1)

Previous to excavation, numerous Neolithic flint tools were collected at TQ 8252 6842. (2).

In 1991 several memebers of the Lower Medway Archaeological Research Group collected a number of flint artefacts, ranging in date and type, from along the western shore of the penninsula. (7).
