2. House, probably late C17, with early and late C19 alterations. Red brick; part timber-framed. Bracketed eaves; plain clay tile roof; centre brick stack. Partly tile-hung full-height rear wings, at right angles. Three storeys. Three bays, window openings with brick voussoirs and sash windows. Both flanking ground floor windows originally in round arched arcading, as shown in C19 prints; now only right hand windows thus. In centre, six stone steps, one curved, to central doorway with six panel door, rectangular overlight, and C19 ashlar doorcase. Late C19 canted bay window on both ground and first floors to left hand. Centre and right hand first floor sash windows with glazing bars. C19 sash windows to left and right hand on second floor; blind opening in centre. Ground and first floor late C19 or early C20 timber framed and gabled extensions against right hand return. Interior: 6 panel door to lobby; possibly dado panelling. Front ground floor rooms with late C19 fireplace surrounds, the west room with semi-elliptical arches flanking fireplace, centre bridging beam and C18 cornice. East first floor room with stopped and chamfered bridging beam; C19 wood fireplace surround. West first floor room with bridging beam. C19 six panel doors; two arches on landing. C18 staircase with turned balusters and contemporary handrail to second floor. 2nd floor west room with dado panelling, C18 to C19 fireplace surround; old ledged door; framing in west end wall; old wide floor boards. East 2nd floor room with old planked door and two fielded panel door. Rear second floor rooms with timber wall framing exposed; old planked door. The house was the head brewers' house and is shown in C19 illustrations of the brewery.
