Full Description
[TQ 893 750] Middle battery, 17th Century (1). Site was indicated on a 17th centurt chart (2). One of three gun batteries (Buda, Middle and Quaker Batteries) built as coast defence after the Dutch raid on the Medway in June 1667. Built around 1688, Middle Battery was a platform for twenty two light guns protected by an earth rampart. The position was abadoned sometime after 1725. (2)
