In 2011 some of the timbers at Jessups were analysis by dendrochrology to try and determine a date. Ten samples were taken from several places (crown post, crown post bass, crown, collar, two tiebeams, wallplate, dias beam, central post and bressumer). All the sources were established as being Oak timbers form a local source.

It was concluded that the primary phase of Jessups produced the precise felling date indicated that the source tree was felled around AD 1398 and the feeling ranges of the four other dates span this. This provides the construction date of most likely being AD 1398. The date of the sample from the bressumer however indicated that the source tree was felled in the winter of AD 1646/7 and so the construction of the chimney is likely to have occurred in 1647.

This gives the house an original date of 1398, with significant alterations occurring in 1647, going was a Medieval open-hall to a house. The dates indicated are much earlier than the ones quoted by English Heritage. (2)
