Full Description
[Area centred TQ 8370 7855] In October, 1891, I was told of the discovery of Roman interments during the construction of SLOUGH FORT. In the office at the fort I saw a few of the articles which had been found, viz. a cinerary urn containing calcined human bones, an Upchurch vase, 4 vases of black ware, a large red urn, 2 black paterae, a Samian patera and a clay stopper or plug. (1) Similar information. (2) Found on the site of SLOUGH FORT. (3) Account based on auths. (1) & (2) [but apparently much garbled.] (4) Slough Fort is owned by Strood R.D.C. (purchased 1958) and its former owner is now dead. No information on the present whereabouts of these objects was obtained by local enquiry. (5)
