Findspot record TQ 87 NW 10 - Late Bronze Age founders hoard, near Shakespeare Farm Cottage, St. Mary Hoo
Summary
A late Bronze Age founders hoard found in a field c.3’ deep, at Little Combe Farm (no longer present, but originally on the border of Allhallows and St Mary’s parishes) in 1875. Among the 28 bronze artefacts were 6 intact socketed axes, parts of 10 broken socketed axes, 1 intact socketed spearhead and 1 broken, fragments of a knife or short dagger, a gouge slightly broken, the hilt of a leaf-shaped sword, and two fragments/complete winged axes and copper cakes weighing 7lbs. 6 ozs. These finds are now believed to be in the British Museum.
