Full Description
[Area centred TQ 8170 7740] B.A. hoard found about here in 1875. (1) A hoard of 28 bronze implements found 1875, c.3' deep, in a field of LITTLE COOMBE FARM on the border of the parishes of ALLHALLOWS and ST. MARY'S. Most of the objects are broken but they include 6 intact socketed axes, parts of 10 broken socketed axes, 1 intact socketed spearhead and 1 broken, fragments of a knife or short dagger, a gouge slightly broken, hilt of a leaf-shaped sword, a fragment of a winged axe and an object claimed as a fishing implement [but actually another winged axe, see auth. (4).] These objects weigh 7 1/2 lbs. and were accompanied by copper cakes weighing7 lbs. 6 ozs. [See AO/58/57/6.] (2) L.B.A. hoard of 28 objects now in British Museum. In earthen pot [the earlier account does not mention a pot: Jessup has confused the hoard with that from Home Wood Farm - TQ 87 NW 5]. (3) The owner of Comb Farm, could offer no information about the hoard (4). Additional reference (5) and site photograph (6).
