Summary

A Roman cremation urn was found in an area after topsoil was removed. The rim of a black burnished urn was visible. Flints and calcined bone were found within this and it was capped by the remains of a reddish saucer. The pottery was dated to the mid first century AD and was taken to Rochester Museum for preservation.

Full Description

[TQ 8385 7558] Removal of topsoil showed the rim of a burnished urn, some 30cm in diameter and 25cm high; inside, above clay, flints and calcined bone, stood a 10cm black pot capped by the remains of a reddish `saucer'. All the pottery apparently dates to the mid first century AD and was taken to Rochester Museum for preservation. (1)
