Monument record TR 23 NW 396 - Former site of Enbrook House.
Summary
The building at Sandgate was a large house designed in 1853-5 by S S Teulon for the Hon J D Bligh in Gothic style. In 1920 it became a Star and Garter Convalescent Home for wounded soldiers. Between 1924 and 1928 Sir Edwin Cooper built on a symmetrical building re-using some of the stone from Teulon's building. Teulon used ragstone with Caen freestone dressings. The building was later a Police Training Centre. It was first Grade II listed on 11 March 1975. The List description was amended on 31 October 1994. In 1978 the house was destroyed by a mysterious fire and in 1996 listed building consent for its demolition was granted.
