Full Description
Description from record TR 23 NW 80:
TR 228364. Viaduct, Folkestone, was built in 1843 by Sir William Cubitt and carries the South Eastern Railway across the Foord Valley between Folkestone Central and Folkestone Junction. It is a brick structure, with nineteen arches, nearly 100 feet high standing on slender piers. (1,2) Railway Viaduct. It is only justice that the viaduct should be so impressive for the railway made Folkestone. 19 brick arches monumentally spanning the Foord Valley, nearly 100 feet high in the centre. Its litheness comes from the fact that the piers taper front and back as well as at the sides. Without any doubt the most exciting piece of architecture in the town. (3) 5281. Railway Viaduct, Bradstone Road, Folkestone. TR 2236 SE 4/60 Grade II. Built 1843 by William Cubitt. Consists of 19 round-headed brick arches spanning the Foord Valley, nearly 100 ft high in the centre. Included for its technical interest and scenic qualities. (4)
