The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 5281 CASTLE ROAD (South side) SANDGATE The Hermitage TR 2035 SE 7/64 II GV 2. Mid Cl9 Gothic house of irregular shape. 2 to 3 storeys stone rubble. 2 projecting gables to the front elevation with kneelers. Tiled roofs. Windows are 2 or 3 light mullioned casements with stone relieving arches. Projecting stone hipped porch with kneelers containing the name of the house and arched doorcase.
No 2, Sandgate Castle, The Hermitage, York Cottage, Gatepiers to The White Lodge form a group with Nos 12 to 16 (even) and Gatepiers to Nos 12 to 16 (even). (No 2 and Nos 12 to 16 (even) and Gatepiers to Nos 12 to 16 (even) being buildings of local interest.
