Full Description

Within the wall which now encloses what were formerly the Slay Hill Saltings a shaft or well has been found. It is c 3 feet in diameter and built of Roman bricks. When first found it was choked with mud and oyster shells which were cleared out to a depth of 9 feet but it is not clear whether the bottom was actually reached. It is now filled with water (1). The Slayhills Saltings have been badly eroded by the sea. This well was not found and no information on its site was obtained (2). Additional reference (3).
