Monument record TQ 55 NW 28 - Early medieval cinerary urn and cremation

Summary

A 6th century globular urn with stamped decoration on shoulder and upper part of body, containing burnt bones, was found in October 1954 at a depth of circa 2 feet at the rear of No. 19 The Charne, Otford. The site lies on a gentle north-east facing slope, on the west side of the Darent Valley, 300m from the present course of the river. OD 60-65m.
