TR 1644-1744 ELHAM HIGH STREET (west side)
8/40 Coopers 29.12.66 GV II
House. Early C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, with grey brick "chainĂ¢ge" partly in header bond. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys and cellar. Chamfered brick plinth. Moulded rubbed brick string course, interrupted at ends and over door to make way for "chainĂ¢ge". Moulded modillioned wooden eaves cornice. Hipped roof. Projecting brick gable end stacks, flues tile-hung above eaves. Regular 2- window front of sixteen-pane sashes with thin glazing bars and segmental heads, in open boxes. Two similar sashes to ground floor. Central half-glazed door with reeded panels and four top lights set in slightly proud rubbed brick architrave with quirked bead moulding and splayed rubbed brick voussoirs. Tile-hung rear return wing to left with roof hipped to rear. Rear return wing to right with stone ground floor and red and grey brick first floor to right side, and semi-circular-headed staircase window; rear gable end stone, roof hipped to rear. Interior not inspected. Facade reported to incorpor- ate brick dated "T.C. 1812".
