TR 14 SW ELMSTEAD MAXTED STREET 3/119 Upper Maxted Street Farm

Farmhouse. Circa 1739, probably with earlier origins. Chequered red and grey brick. Plain tile roof. Lobby entry plan of one room each side of stack. Late C20 addition to left. 2 storeys and garret. Plat band. Cogged brick eaves cornice. Half-hipped roof. Red and grey brick ridge stack slightly off-centre to right of C18 section. Regular 3-window front of three-light multi-pane casements. Similar windows to ground floor, with segmental relieving arches. Half-glazed door behind central brick porch with weatherboarded gable and plain tile roof. 1739 datestone with heart, over door. Sun Insurance plaque. Interior: incorporates timber from an early-C16 or earlier house. Chamfered axial beam off-centre towards front of left ground-floor room. Cross beam between left room and entrance lobby with traces of moulding and brattishing. Cross beam to right of stack and re- used joists to right room. More re-used timber to first floor, including pieces of a moulded octagonal crown post. Staggered butt purlin roof. Brick fireplace with wooden bressumer. Early C18 splat balusters to first-floor landing.
