The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 1253 MILL ROAD
The Water Mill TR 1634 NE 3/54 3.1.50.
2. C18 house and attached mill building. The house is of 3 storeys red brick (at one time painted). Brick eaves cornice. 2 sashes with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with fluted pilasters, projecting cornice and 6-panel moulded door, the top 2 panels cut away and glazed. To the North of the house is the mill which has 4 storeys, the top storey weatherboarded The back part of the mill has been made into a garage with a room over of 2 storeys, part tile-hung, with a half-hipped tiled roof.

Description from record TR 13 NE 32 :
TR 166350. Watermill, built in 1773. The machinery of Hythe Mill is nearly complete, though it has not worked since the 1920S. The pond and bypass sluice still exist and the tail race is carried in a tunnelfor c.300 yards under the house and road to discharge into the Royal Military Canal. A beam engine was installed in the C19 to drive the mill but was scrapped during the last war. The mill is privately owned. (2)
