Full Description

ITQ 4527 4231] There was a bloomery at Beechenwood, Cowden, Lat. 51 9' 40" N., Long 0 4' 40" N. There is clear evidence of bloomery cinder in the fields. (1) The fields were under pasture at time of visit and confirmatory evidence was not obtained. The metalling of the London - Lewes Ro. Rd. (RR 14), which passes some 50.0 m. to the E., is composed of bloomery slag, and the possibility of misinterpretation by Straker must be considered. (2) TQ 453423 Cowden - appears in a checklist of all known Wealden bloomery sites. (3)
