TR 05 NW SELLING HOGBEN'S HILL (south side)
1/16 The Gate Lodge (formerly listed as 10.2.76 The Hogben's Hill Lodge at Lees Court)
II
Gate lodge, now house. Late C18. Possibly by Sir John Soane. Rendered with thatched roof. Two-cell plan with C20 porch extension. One storey and attic with verandah all round on gnarled and forked tree-trunks. Hipped roof with sunk skylight to left and central stack. Two pointed Y-traceried windows and door to left (to the gate) with pointed traceried head. Half-door in small brick extension at right, with C20 wooden casement. Suggested attribution to Soane, who built stables at Lees Court c.1790, to which this was the gate lodge. (See B.O.E. Kent II, 1983, 371).
