Monument record TQ 94 NE 8 - Romano-British cremation urn, Westwell Downs

Summary

A Romano-British urn containing a cremation was found on Westwell Downs in 1818. This urn is now in the possession of Maidstone Museum and a small brooch also found on the downs is in the British Museum. The urn has been dated to the 2nd century AD and is a jar of grey ware with a cavetto rim.

Full Description

[Marginal] A Romano-British urn containing a cremation now in the Maidstone Museum was found on Westwell Downs in 1818. A small brooch also found on the downs is in the British Museum. (1) A 2nd AD jar of grey ware with a cavetto rim found by Horace Barwick. In store: Maidstone Museum. (a) (2)
