Full Description
A beacon at Westwell (see illustration card) is shown on William Lambarde's 'Carde' of c.1570 showing 52 beacons in Kent. They droppedout of use after 1640. The beacon at Fairlight, Sussex (centred TQ 8612) could only have been seen from Westwell in very clear weather. (1) Beacon Wood, commanding extensive views to the south and west, is shown on the Tithe Map at TQ 967493 (a). There is nothing to be seen on the ground. (2)
