Historic building recording was carried out at the site in October 2022 in advance of proposed development affecting the structure. The report describes the structure as being 18th century in date, and having originally functioned as a former stables with brick flanked walls, timber gables, and a timber pitched roof clad with Kent peg tiles.
“The north elevation is red brick laid in English bond with some overburnt grey headers with no internal brick buttress’s. English Bond, which is characterised by a row of stretchers (long sides) alternating with a row of headers (short ends)…The north elevation has a single stable door opening with timber frame and lintel, two vertical ventilation slots and two wooden casement windows. The larger window to the west has a brick arch above the wooden casement window 7 which suggests the window, wood lintel and brick infill are of a later date…The west elevation is red brick laid in English bond with some overburnt grey headers and a single vertical ventilation slot now with a later glass window…The east elevation is red brick laid in English bond with some overburnt grey headers and a single vertical ventilation slot and small casement window….The south elevation is red brick laid in English bond with some overburnt grey headers with no widows or ventilation slots” (from the original report, 2). The roof and attic are timber and of vaulted construction supported by timber trusses, purlins, and rafters. The internal brickwork has a white applied finish, with a brick floor and drainage gullies, and an open plan layout with partitions for individual stables. (2)
