Listed Building record TQ 95 NE 123 - NEW YORK COTTAGE
Summary
A pair of cottages which were converted into one house. It is situated on the western side of Belmont Park and to the north of the village of Hocklay. The cottage was built in about 1790 as an estate cottage for the Belmont estate (see HOB UID 618335). The cottage was probably designed by Colonel Montresor of Belmont who was a retired engineer with the British Army in North America. The cottage is a timber-framed construction with painted infill and a plain tile roof. Designed in an American Colonial style, it is of one storey and attic with a garret above it. A verandah goes along three sides of the house. It is seven windows wide on the front side and five windows wide on the sides. The half-hipped roof has two shallow pedimented dormers. The house was illustrated in Plaw's "Ferme Ornee" published in 1795.
