Full Description

A coarse-ware jar containing a cremation, found with other pots (now lost) and with two bronze coins, during the widening of the main road between Hothfield and Ashford. The pot, on typological grounds, is considered to be just pre-Roman, being a derivative of S.E. 'B' (Nov. Southern 3rd B) but the coins although unidentifiable are dated by J. Allan to the 2nd cent. A.D. The extent of the association of the coins with the pot is not clearly defined but suggests a survival into the Roman period. The pot and coins are in private possession. (1)
