An historic building appraisal was conducted in 2019 of a small and unlisted timber-framed stable building located close to the north-west corner of Luton cottage, a Grade II listed building. There are plans to convert the building, which has group value with the cottage, into ancillary accommodation.
‘The stable has some historic interest and value, however, this is relatively modest. Its framing is unremarkable and typical of the period, being constructed in a relatively economical manner using a significant quantity of reused material. The structure is relatively featureless, originally having only one point of entry and no windows, its elevations entirely covered with weatherboards above its brick plinth. It is reasonably well preserved, retaining the majority of its original timbers, however, in places its condition is poor. The feeding trough and short length of manager are notable as the only surviving fittings and the clearest evidence for the use of the building – no other original or early fixtures or fittings, such as tack hooks, survive.’ (2)
