The following text is from the original listed building designation:
RAMSGATE THE PLAINS OF TR 3865 SE WATERLOO (west side) 10/311 Nos. 49 and 51 with railed 21.9.84 Areas GV II Terrace house pair and shop. 1820's. Painted brick and slate roof. Three storeys, garret and basement. Two glazing bar sashes to left and 2 blank spaces with central casement to right on 2nd floor. Two storey canted bay to left with glazing bar sashes on ground floor in moulded architraves, and French windows on 1st floor. Canted bay with French windows to right on 1st floor. Continuous tented verandah at 1st floor with scrolled brackets to piers, and simple rails. Reeded and panelled door to left with fanlight and panelled door to centre both with semi- circular surrounds, that to right (No. 49) with Coade stone head keystone. Spear headed rails to steps and to basement areas. C20 canted plate glass shop front to right with plate glass corner door. Right return with shaped gable, paired stack and tripartite garret window all as are ensemble, with three blank window spaces on each floor, the centre to 2nd floor round-headed.
