Full Description
(TQ 52845910) One lead bull of Pope Lucius III (1181-5) and five lead bulls of Pope Urban III (1185-7) were found in a garden at 5 Bubblestone Road, Otford in 1969. They were found during the excavation of a small part of the foundations of the archiepiscopal manor-house, carried out by the archaeological section of the Otford and District Historical Society. The bulls were recovered from a sewer which was almost certainly in use in the 12th century, but not apparently incorporated in the palatial reconstruction of the house inthe 16th century. They are now in the British Museum, Catalogue vi, 266,BM.21726; 267,BM.21730. (1)
