Summary from record TR 36 NE 448:
Flour mill designed by Pugin. Constructed in 1865, the building is an early example of substantial mechanised factory flour milling. The mill was re-modelled on numerous occasions. Milling on site dates back to the early 18th century, however, as a mill is shown on a map of 1736. During the Second World War tunnels and underground shelters were dug to protect the workforce - the mill site was hit by 9 bombs during the war.
