The following text is from the original listed building designation:
RAMSGATE HARBOUR PARADE TR 3864 NW (north side) 13/146 26.10.78 No. 66 (Royal Oak Hotel and Royal Oak Shades) GV II Hotel. Core of building 1690, largely rebuilt 1748 and early C19. Rendered and painted brick with slate roof. Four storeys and basement with cornice to parapet, and hipped roof with stacks to rear. Canted corner. Four sashes with 1 to corner on 3rd floor, and 3 storey canted bay to right on 2nd, 1st and ground floor, with 3 sashes to left on each floor. Two plate windows to left on ground floor and double panelled doors with fanlight. C19 extension to left of 4 storeys and basement the same height as main range, with 2 sashes to each of 3rd and 2nd floors, large plate glass window and balcony on 1st floor, with glazed C20 bar front on ground floor.

A plaque on the wall of the Oak Hotel,
"To Commemorate all Ranks of 27 Air Sea Rescue of the Royal Air Force H.Q. Dover stationed at Royal Harbour Ramsgate based at the Royal oak from 1942 to 1945. Their combined actions during WWII often in extreme adverse conditions helped save the lives of over 13000 British, Allied and Enemy Aircrewā€¯.
