The following text is from the original listed building designation:
RAMSGATE WESTERN UNDERCLIFF TR 3664 SE 16/440 Access road, underpass and retaining walls from Court Stairs to Western Undercliff II Access road, underpass and retaining walls. 1926. Faced with Pulhamite. Serpentine road about 150 metres long forming a chine in the cliff face about 2-3 metres deep. The Pulhamite formed into naturalistic stratified rock formations and rock gardens, with 'crazy paving' road surface, and forming an arched underpass below Royal Esplanade. Part of Westcliff improvements 1924-26, under direction of Sir John Burnet and Partners and the Borough Engineer, executed by J. Pulham and Sons.
