The following text is from the original listed building designation:
MONKTON MONKTON STREET TR 26 NE (North side) 1/61 Lantern Cottage 1.2.72 and No. 153 GV II Cottage pair. C17 extended C19 on possible C14 base. Flint and red brick with plain tiled roof. One storey and attic with lower ground floor of flint, brick plat band with pilaster strips to roof and 2 hipped dormers and central stack. One glazing bar sash and boarded door to centre right. C20 glazed doors on left and right returns. C19 brick with rear elevations. Said to be C14 brewhouse converted into cottages. (See Igglesden, vol. 26, p.74.)
