The hospital was expanded following the First World War after having cared for British and allied forces during the conflict. It was again in military use during the Second World War and took in evacuees from Dunkirk. After the war it developed into a geriatric hospital and was closed in 1997. It was partially demolished, leaving the main block only, in late 2003. (2)
