The following text is from the original listed building designation:
READING STREET 1. 5283 (South West Side) BROADSTAIRS Northcliffe. Elmwood. TR 36 NE 5/152 16.1.74. II 2. Includes No 43 (Holm Oak) Callis Court Road, Broadstairs. Built in 2 stages. The left portion is early to mid C19. 2 storeys stuccoed. Slate roof. Parapet and moulded cornice. 2 3-light bays through all floors and 2 sashes. Central doorcase with round-headed porch. Late C19 portion on the right. 2 storeys pseudo timber-framed with roughcast plaster infill. The ground floor is brick. Tiled roof with 5-light dormer. 2 3-light leaded casements, This house was the home of Cecil Harmsworth, later Lord Northcliffe the famous newspaper proprietor and Propaganda Minister during the first World War. It is included for historical interest.
