The following text is from the original listed building designation:
HARBOUR STREET 1. 5283 (North East Side) BROADSTAIRS The York Gate TR 3967 NE 1/8 24.1.50. II
2. Built about 1540, repaired in 1795. A pointed arch with grooves for a portcullis built over the street with a bastion on the south-west side but on the north-east side only the groove in which the portcullis fitted remains.
