The following text is from the original listed building designation:
RAMSGATE VICTORIA PARADE TR 3865 SE (south side) 10/407 Pair of stone Lions about 100 metres south- west of St. Clu Hotel GV II Pair of stone Lions. About 3½ feet high. Rampant bearing a scroll, originally with motto. The two lions are identical to those used as finials on the Granville Hotel, which bear the Pugin motto: En Avant and are either from that building or else part of E.W. Pugin's general redevelopment scheme of this area in the late 1860's. (See Busson, Ramsgate, 106-7).
