Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. POSTERN LANE 1732 Postern Forge House TQ 64 NW 10/92
II
2. Formerly 2 cottages, now 1. L-shaped C17 building, but part dating from late C15, the projecting south wing being short but wide. 2 storeys. 4 windows, 2 window bays being in the south wing. Now fronted with red brick on the ground floor and tiles above but presumably timber-framed beneath. Tiled roof. Half-hipped gable at the east end of the front of the south wing. Smaller pointed gable forming the west half of the south wing. Casement windows. This house may have been built in 1480 by Thomas Willard, iron master, and was certainly associated with the iron trade for many generations. The forge dam adjoins the house, the interior contains a fire ingle nook and some late C17 panelling.
