Summary

Lower Palaeolithic handaxe with a missing pointand flake found prior to 1897 in a pit 0.5 miles east of Teynham Station on the north of the railway line. Objects found on possibly Head geology.

Full Description

A large implement which, though wanting its point,is 8 inches long, was found by Professor Hughes in gravel, said to have been brought from a pit on the hill north of the railway, and 0.5miles east of Teynham station. (1)

Teynham - Palaeolithic implement (large), (a) Neolithic implements. [No sub-reference for the Neolithic implements and no other references to Neolithic implements from Teynham can be traced; except a polished stone axe from Teynham - Kent 33 NE 8.] (2)

[Area TQ 9678 6333] Find sited to the only pit on the hill, a clay pit, and to its area as shown on the O.S. 1909. (3)
