HADLOW CHURCH STREET TQ 63 49 7/43 Row of Hodsoll headstones - approx 400mm east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary
GV II
Row of 8 headstones. Dated 1711-1778 in memory of members of the Hodsoll family. All are sandstone with shaped heads and stand between 300mm-750mm high. They are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering.
The tallest, at the left end, has a curvilinear-shaped double head and recessed front panel. The inscription which includes some italic lettering is divided into separate columns for Reuben Hodsoll (d. 1711) and his wife Ann (d. 1741). Next to it is one with a coat of arms carved on the head. Here too the inscription (in large letters) is divided into columns and records the deaths of husband and wife Henry and Elizabeth who died in 1741 and 1732 respectively. The others all have curvilinear-shaped heads and recessed front panels. Some are illegible.
