Full Description

[TQ 9880 6072] Romano-British interment found in 1913. Sited by Mr W.Whiting of Ospringe [siting approximate only]. (1) In 1913 in a gravel pit, about 700 yards west of Syndale Camp [TQ 96 SE 12] six Roman cremation burials with pottery dating from c. 70 to 110 A.D. were found and carefully preserved. (2) Siting by Authority 1 falls within a field at present under wheat. Itis close by the modern road in the foot of the valley. Traces of former gravel workings are apparent within the field but principally running down the centre, along the hill slopes, and away from the given siting. (3)
