[TQ 91316243] Roman cemetery (site of) [NAT]. (1) Roman burial ground (site of) [NAT]. (2) Roman cemetery found in 182(6?). (3) Roman interments found in 1828. (4) At Chilton in 1828, the Rev. William Vallance discovered interments of Roman date, consisting of urn burials, accompanied by four bronze harp-shaped fibulae. In one case, however, a skeleton was found entire, with a small urn on one side and a patera on the other. (5) Present location of finds not ascertained. Not in Maidstone Museum. The site is within an orchard, the ground is under pasture, and there is nothing to be seen. (6)
