Full Description

[TQ 93036311] Chapel [NR] (Site of) [NAT]. (1) Puckeshall on Tong. Dedication: St. James. Date 1202. Founder and patron unknown. Leper Hospital. (2) Founded before 1252. Dissolved 1546. For poor, aged and sick men. (3) Date of foundation now known but first mentioned in Pipe Rolls, 28 Hen. II (1181-2). (4) The Leper Hospital of St. James stood on the north side of Bapchild Street with its chapel and cemetery. In 1897 a red brick wall and barn-like building perhaps occupied the site of this hospital. (5) Add. refs. (6)(7) Remains of wall and barn near to siting given by Authority 1.
