Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
HILDENBOROUGH STOCKS GREEN ROAD TQ 54 NE 5/209 Cartshed about 80m west of - Old Barn Farmhouse
GV II
Cartshed. Probably C18. Framed construction with vertical weatherboarding on the south side; peg-tile roof.
Plan: 4-bay cartshed on a west-east axis, open at both ends although redundant mortises suggest that the east end may have been partly boarded formerly. Outshut along the north side. Loft doors indicate that the tie- beams were used for the storage of tools and ladders.
Exterior: On the north side the roof half-hipped at ends is swept down, almost to ground level, as a catslide to the outshut. Below the half hip of the east end a section of horizontal weatherboarding includes paired loft doors opening into the roofspace.
Interior: Queen post roof trusses with clasped purlins. The wall posts have square-cut jowls and 3-way bracing. On the north side the wall posts stand on stone plinths and have a fourth brace angled down to a low wallplate to the outshut.
The cartshed is part of a farmstead group associated with the Old Farm Tea House (q.v.).
A nice example of a small vernacular agricultural building of the region.
