The following text is from the original listed building designation:
HADLOW CHURCH STREET TQ 63 49 7/27 Carnel chest tomb approx 2m north of the organ loft of the Church of St Mary
GV II
Chest tomb. Probably C17 in memory of members of the Camel family. Sandstone ashlar. Plain rectangular chest with very thick, soffit-moulded flat lid and moulded base on one-step plinth. The top of the lid is very weathered and any inscription there has gone. 3 of the stone blocks on the south side are inscribed with Roman serif capitals. Top left block is inscribed in memory of (Const)ance Camel who died in 1714, the block alongside records the death of Thomas Camel in 1718. The bottom left stone is worn and only the date 1717 can be made out.
